What is Academic Games?
Academic Games is a collection of games designed to challenge students to use higher order thinking skills in the subjects of Language Arts, English, History, Mathematics, and Logic. Through competition students are encouraged and motivated to sharpen their skills in order to gain a competitive edge over their peers. Players receive recognition and awards in the same way that sports champions are honored, but there is also much more to Academic Games. Academic Games is...
"A place to learn new things and be able to use your smarts to compete and win. There is so much more than just winning or losing though. The friendships you make and the memories you create never leave you."- Gabriela Calderon (player)
"A club where students can make friends and memories that last a lifetime all while learning Math, English, and History."- Varun Gone (player)
Our Mission
The mission of Northville Academic Games is to provide a nurturing and focused environment for students to develop their intellectual capabilities as well as maturing into responsible individuals through fun games and friendly competitions. We cultivate positive attitude and fairness in players who can win with class and lose with grace.
Our Core Values

PASSION - for the games and learning - we want our players to love what they do, and have a passion for it. If a student doesn't want to do (even though parents may want to), that player should not be in the program.
INTEGRITY - Integrity reflects who we are as a person, be a player, or coach, or parent. Integrity will earn trust and respect, and will help us do the right thing.
EXCELLENCE - We want to do the best of what we can. It requires hard work, but also brings pride and promotes self-confidence.
TEAMWORK - A commitment to common goals while showing concern and support for each other.
FUN - It's extremely important that the program is fun to be part of. Fun can come from the friendship between all of those involved, from an extended competition trip, or from a celebration party.
Why Academic Games?
AG games are played at a national level, so Northville students can compete, both in-state and against superstar thinkers from around the United States. Recent seniors have won national recognition and our team regularly succeeds both in state and in wider competition. AG also offers opportunities for kids who love math, logic, history and English to compete in ways that they may not be able to find elsewhere. Many of our students compete in Robotics, Science Olympiad or (later) in DECA, but AG games offer broader and often earlier (3rd grade) options for precocious learners. Also, our most successful student-players want to compete and build team camaraderie to supplement sports. AG offers all the advantages of team sports, but in a setting that focuses on different strengths and poses academic challenges. Our parents love that AG offers a fun, supportive activity to explore what hungry learners can do together.

Over the Years
Northville Academic Games was established in 2009 at Amerman Elementary School. It then expanded to Meads Mill and Hillside as players graduated into middle schools. Our oldest group of players established their presence in Northville High School in 2015. Currently there are more than 100 players in the Northville school district.
Organizations
Northville Academic Games is a member of the Michigan Leagues of Academic Games (MLAG), which is a nonprofit 501(c) (3) organization. MLAG holds monthly regional tournaments from September to February, and a state tournament in March. The national organization – Academic Games Leagues of America (AGLOA), holds a national tournament in April every year. Only qualified teams from the state tournament can attend the national tournament.
